Whistler Blackcomb,
nestled in the Coast Mountains of BC, Canada, boasts one of
the longest skiing seasons in North America. The ski
lifts usually start running in early November for early season
skiing. Things really get going by mid-December, and continue
full blast until late May.
From then until late August the glacier is open for summer
skiing on Blackcomb Mountain, leaving only a few weeks of
the year when die-hard skiers must turn to the bike park
instead of clicking into their bindings.
With 8100 acres of ski-able terrain, over 200 trails, and
a mile of vertical skiing, one needs the long ski season to
fully explore the mountain. Each time of year brings its special
benefits. The early skiing season is quiet, with few crowds
and often spectacular snow. Mid-season (late December to early
March) has the best chance of soft snow, and lots of powder.
The spring season brings warm, sunny days, extended hours of
operation, and lots of great après activities in the village.
Glacier skiing in the summer is a good time to work on your
skills. Many ski and snowboard camps take place on the mountains
at this time… see lift
