It’s Our Time to Shine
– Whistler is a Host Venue for the 2010 Winter
Thousands cheered in Village Square as the announcement was
made, live from Prague, Czech Republic on July 3 2003, that
the IOC had chosen Vancouver-Whistler to host the 2010 Winter
Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, just moments ago.
"Whistler was conceived by an Olympic dream almost 40
years ago," said Mayor Hugh O'Reilly. "Today, we're
on the way to realizing it. The next seven years are going
to be very exciting for Whistler, as we anticipate and prepare
to host the world. It's a proud moment, and we share our pride
with our neighbours, our province and our country."
